Digg this and win a $500 donation to your fundraising page

At 5:00pm Eastern time today we’re going to announce the winner of our $500 “winjuly” tagging promotion – there’s still a couple of hours left to enter – but we’re also kicking off a new donation promotion, this time with Digg.

Here’s the deal. Submit your fundraising page to Digg, (or somebody else’s) and get all your friends to Digg it too. Don’t know how to Digg? Don’t worry, read on. At 5:00 this Friday, July 18, we will award two donation prizes:

  • $500 donation to the Firstgiving fundraising page with the most Diggs
  • $100 donation to a randomly selected Firstgiving fundraising page with at least two Diggs

So what are you waiting for? Set up a fundraising page if you haven’t already, and start Digging! If you don’t have a Fundraising page, you can still Digg other people’s pages. You can see what Firstgiving pages are already on Digg here. (That’s the link we’re going to use to pick the winners)

A quick guide to Digging your Firstgiving fundraising page:

If you don’t have one yet, you can set up a fundraising page quickly and easily.

Go to Digg.com and press the Submit New button. You’ll have to create an account if you don’t have one. Don’t worry. It’s easy.

Then fill in the URL of your fundraising page and choose “News Article”

Next, write an appealing headline and some descriptive text. Usually, you can copy and paste this from your fundraising page.

Choose a category that best fits your fundaising page. Digg’s categories are a little tech-heavy, but you can always find something that fits, often health, people, sports or pets and animals.

When you submit your story, Digg almost always asks you to confirm that it’s original and not a duplicate. Double check the other stories, then click to confirm.

You’ve submitted your fundraising page to Digg. Good work!

Now the real work begins, but remember, it’s for a good cause. You have to get as many other people as you can to Digg your page. That means they have to go to your page or to Digg and click the yellow button that says “1″ right now. The same skills you use to get lots of donations to your page come into play. But you can also use the “share” button (next to the green arrow above) to alert your friends right from the Digg web page.

However you do it, we think you’ll find that sites like Digg can be effective in promoting your fundraising page and raising more money online for your cause. Good luck, and happy Digging!
