Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday, I love to sit back, eat turkey and watch football by a fire. There is no stress about gifts, (except for my Mom who will be First in line at Macy’s for Black Friday), and usually it is a family affair that is filled with tradition. One tradition that I am especially excited for, in addition to Aunt Sue’s banana cream pie, is the gift of giving thanks to someone else by providing a warm meal on thanksgiving day.
My family has made it a tradition to give food and donations to nonprofits serving the needs of our community. It is a wonderful tradition that fills me up even more than the turkey does.
Here in Boston, The Boston Living Center is one organization serving the community in this way. This year will mark their 20th anniversary of helping and serving individuals in the greater Boston area. Their Thanksgiving tradition is to serve over 1,900 people a warm thanksgiving meal at the Celebration of Life Thanksgiving Dinner. The dinner held tonight at the Hynes Convention Center takes over 150 volunteer to serve the Thanksgiving meal. Each volenteer has also created a FirstGiving page and fundraised through the TIPS Program, “Thanksgiving Is People Serving”
