Create a fundraising team to boost your goals
“No man is an island” has been said many times throughout history. Though we try at FirstGiving to make it significantly easier to raise funds through your own personal network, building a team around your fundraising goals is always a fun way to boost your results. Teams tend to inspire some friendly competition between friends and colleagues, creating a multiplier effect on the amount of online donations raised.
A team keeps everyone on track
As humans we have a knack for getting distracted…we’re barely into January, and New Year’s resolutions are already hard to hold to! If assembled correctly, a good team can help keep its members focused and on track. So when you build a team, not only are you individually more focused and productive, so are your partners. Commit to tracking your training progress as a team (the Endomondo mile-logging widget is a good place to start), and share frequent updates on your fundraising pages to keep your donors engaged.
Create a community and culture
As a team, it is important to create a sense of community and culture for longevity’s sake. If you are looking to continue fundraising in the future, you will want to do everything you can to ensure your teammates are eager to return next time around to experience this fundraising process once again. Creating customized t-shirts or a Facebook group for your team, hosting pizza dinners, or even coining team code names are some great ways to create a sense of community within your team.
Spark friendly competition with incentives
What’s wrong with a little friendly competition? Incentives are everywhere, looking to be leveraged. Most of us even lust for competition. Use this to your advantage and see how you can add some fun in reaching your fundraising goals. Maybe the teammate who raises the most can be given the honorary title of team captain? How about he/she gets to decide where to spend spring break? And don’t forget to include your donors — issue a social media challenge and allow the biggest donor to choose the costumes your team will don for the race, for example. Simple ideas can keep things interesting and ultimately further your efforts!
Develop your team brand
In today’s digitized world, everyone is their own brand in one way or another. This may prove beneficial if and when you decide to grow and/or change team members. Developing a brand can be easier than you think and keep things focused on the larger mission. It is also an easy way to separate the team’s objectives from an individual’s personal identity. Even the simple creation of a Facebook page can help unify a team’s brand.
