Firstgiving at SONH Polar Plunge

Team Firstgiving passes out towels to plungers

Warm, dry Team Firstgiving passes out towels to cold, wet plungers

Team Firstgiving recently took a day-trip up to the New Hampshire coastline to help out our friends at Special Olympics.  We passed out towels to some fearless and dedicated polar plungers, who collectively raised over $280,000 this year for Special Olympics New Hampshire.  More photos from the  event are here.

When it comes to raising money online, Special Olympics knows how to do it right. Their nationwide community of supporters, aka the fundraising superstars, is known for its enthusiasm, creativity, and dare we say insanity!  These fundraisers brave the icy waters of the winter waves to raise money for Special Olympics year after year.  Thousands of plungers have created their own fundraising pages and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars with their online fundraising efforts.

Further south, in slightly warmer waters, Special Olympics Virginia has garnered the help of some local press.   And to boot, teams that raise the most money online will receive in-kind donations of office supplies from local companies.

Further north, Special Olympics Maine celebrated New Year’s Day with their local version, the annual Lobster Dip.

Kudos to all you brave souls making the plunge this winter and raising money online for such a great cause!  We salute you!
