Fundraising Idea – Trivia Night

Competitive events are great for fundraising. Today’s post illustrates how an everyday trivia night can be converted into a grassroots fundraising opportunity. Trivia nights are special because they still cater to the competitive ideal but doesn’t physically exclude individuals who may or may not be able to participate. Individual or team competitions can be easily implemented as well.

Start off with an admissions fee

Depending on the environment, your admissions fee/donation can range anywhere between $5 – $50. It really depends on the expected turnout, participant demographic, and/or charitable cause. This admissions fee plays an important role in raising donations for your nonprofit of choice.

Leverage those competitive incentives

Apart from the satisfaction individuals will get from contributing to a nonprofit, how else are you going to bring in more donations? Incentives are important. This is a competitive event after all, what’s on the table? Are we talking bragging rights? A free dinner? A gift card to Best Buy?

Cradle Beach, a nonprofit focused on aiding children with disadvantages, is hosting a trivia night on April 26th in Buffalo, NY. Buffalo’s Smartest Company Trivia competition is leveraging free t-shirts, restaurant meals, and raffle tickets to bring in company teams. Leverage free appetizers, drinks, meal discounts, or other similar deals to incentivize individuals to attend your fundraising event.

If your trivia night is a team event, consider using our event registration the same way Cradle Beach has done for their event. Singing up your trivia pals is easy to do online.

Team up with other organizations

Part of the charm of a trivia night is the opportunity to bring a lot of traffic to a designated area. This could be a great way to build up relationships with local businesses. Restaurants are perfect for this very reason. Let them host the event and sell meals. They will make money on the new traffic and can provide a space for your event. It’s a win-win. They could also provide some of the winners with a few free dishes to build up customer loyalty as well.
