Fundraising ideas: Writing a great email appeal
Our dedicated and creative fundraisers have raised millions of dollars for great causes over the years. In that time, they have shared amazing fundraising ideas and fundraising tips. Time and time again, they tell us that their success started with an email appeal asking friends and family for donations.
Their advice on writing a great email appeal:
- Make it personal. You’re asking for the support of your friends and family – tell them what this cause and this organization mean to you.
- Set a goal. People who set a fundraising goal almost always raise more than those who do not. Friends and family will strive to help you meet and exceed your goal.
- Give a recommendation. Often donors are hesitant to give if they are not sure of an appropriate amount. The average amount of a donation on FirstGiving is $56, so you may want to suggest $50 to your friends and family. Many will give this amount or more!
- Make it tangible. Donors like to know how their donation will be put to work. Call your recipient organization and ask them how they would use a $50 donation and include that information in your appeal.
Happy fundraising!
