The Reddit fundraising challenge leverages $55K from Christians, Atheists and Muslims: Part 1 of 3

Charity inspires goodwill, as proven by a current fundraiser launched by the Christianity, Atheism, and Islam groups in the social news site reddit.com. Together, they’ve raised over $55,000 from among their group members. We asked redditor Margaret Crymes, a member of the subreddit group r/christianity, if she could answer some questions about the fundraiser and the reddit challenge. This is part one of a two-part interview about the amazing fundraising collaboration and challenge.

Haiti disaster relief

You’ve probably been keeping up with the news, and may have just received Barack Obama’s email update about Haiti relief efforts and ways to help. One way to help, is, of course, to give to an organization that is providing relief on the ground to earthquake victims.  Another way is to inspire your friends to [...]

Happy Mother

Here at Firstgiving, we love our moms (how surprising, right?!).  And we think a lot about charitable celebrations, so, naturally, we were excited to see all the talk this week about how to give meaningful gifts that honor moms and do good at the same time. For example, check out this Mother’s Day online giving [...]

Team World Vision supporter Ryan Hall is Boston-bound this Monday

Professional runner Ryan Hall will toe the line with 26,000+ other runners this Monday at the 113th running of the Boston Marathon. Like the 900 Boston-bound runners fundraising on Firstgiving, Ryan and his wife Sara (also a professional runner) have a fundraising page, too. If you can’t be in Boston to cheer Ryan on, show [...]

MSF Just Say "No Thank You" to Gifts

My family celebrates Christmas, and when it comes to gift-giving, my dad is one of those people who is really difficult to shop for.  We always find ourselves scrambling at the last minute to think of a gift that would be both enjoyable and meaningful for him. After years of gifting my father with trinkets, [...]

A Little Foresight, A Big Impact

A friend just sent me a link to an article from the BBC on the threat of wasted aid dollars in the developing world.   Normally I see articles (and books) on this subject related to how aid dollars have already been wasted.  This article, however, warns of the inefficiency of waiting until a crisis occurs [...]

Olympic Inspiration

Last week we highlighted Olympic marathoner Ryan Hall‘s fundraising page for World Vision on the Team Firstgiving Blog.  (By the way, Hall finished 10th in Beijing, helping the U.S. team to its best finish in 32 years). At Firstgiving, we know that endurance sports events have extraordinary power to inspire, especially when athletes are also [...]

The Long and Short Run of It

This morning I received an email from World Vision highlighting the most recent news on the current food shortage in East Africa. BBC East Africa Food Crisis report World Vision does an excellent job of keeping its donor community up-to-date on how instability (economic, political, environmental) is affecting people around the world and where there [...]
