Tax time roundup of charitable contribtion resources

I’m sure you would never leave your taxes to the last minute, but I bet you know somebody who has. So for your “friend”, here are some resources to help him or her figure out what charitable contributions are deductible and which are not. Remember, contributions you make now can’t go on your 2008 tax return, but they’ll be there for you this time next year when you file for 2009.

First of all, check our prior blog posts about getting a record of all your Firstgiving charitable contributions and also the IRS rules on record keeping for charitable contributions.

There’s also a good article over at About.com, called Tax Deduction for Charity Donations:Contributions to churches and non-profits are tax-deductible. That sounds encouraging, doesn’t it? If you’re still not sure, and you’ve got some time to kill, you can check the official story at the IRS website.

If you’re a seeing-is-believing type, here’s a video from the good people at TurboTax:

Remember, the best tax advice comes from tax professionals.  At Firstgiving, we’re fundraising experts, not tax experts, so we hope you all get nice big refunds and use some of that money to support your favorite nonprofit causes.  Good luck!
