This week’s Best Practice in Action-May 20: Provide Promotional Materials to Participants

Our friends at Climate Cycle not only equip classrooms with the tools to learn about climate change, they also equip their fundraisers with tools to run successful campaigns.  Climate Cycle brings environmental education to the classroom by coordinating fun, hands-on events and learning opportunities.  Their annual Ride for Solar on Schools allows participants to raise money as they cycle a 4, 10, 20, or 62-mile lakefront ride with proceeds from the ride going to help fund the installation of solar energy systems at local public schools.

It takes a lot of pedal power to crank up a major fundraiser and Climate Cycle has devised a great way to give riders a leg up on promoting their campaigns: each participant receives a fundraising tool kit to help get their campaign rolling that includes printable business cards they can use to promote their own FirstGiving fundraising page!

These business cards can be personalized with the address of each rider’s FirstGiving homepage and passed along to friends and family members.  A great way to promote the event, the organization and individual participants, the cards give supporters a wealth of information that they can put in their wallet, purse or pocket to remind them to donate later.  The cards include key information:

  • Reference to the 2010 Ride for Solar on Schools fundraising goal
  • Climate Cycle’s website address
  • The fundraising page of individual riders

Also, by providing the template online and having each rider print out only the number of cards they need (hopefully on recycled paper!) Climate Cycle reduces printing and overhead costs while providing a green resource to riders.
