This week’s fundraising Best Practice in Action – May 14: “Save the Date” Emails to Past Participants

As many fundraisers know, those most likely to give are those who have given before.  Although this may seem obvious, fundraisers often fail to remind existing donors of upcoming events.  Our friends at Children’s Hospital Wisconsin have a well thought-out fundraising strategy to remind loyal donors about their annual Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk.  Although the event is not taking place until October 2010, they’re sending a “Save the Date” reminder to past participants.

To remind their network of donors and participants from past Briggs and Al’s Run & Walk events, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin sent a “Save the Date” email that included a link to their FirstGiving start page inviting participants to create their own FirstgGiving pages.

Further, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin included a  “forward to a friend ” link in the email to enable past participants to forward the “Save the Date” email to eight recipients and include a personal message asking them to join in.  Because they’re from a trusted source, “forward to a friend” forms are a quick and easy way to generate more qualified interest and rapidly grow your event.

The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin’s “Save the Date” strategy has already generated 19 fundraising pages.  Considering the event is more than 14o days away, they’re well on their way to exceeding their goal!
