This week's fundraising Best Practice in Action: April 16 – Promote your guaranteed race entries
Our friends at the Boomer Esiason Foundation have guaranteed entry numbers for the ING New York City Marathon this fall.
That means that when runners are excluded from the lottery for official marathon numbers, the folks at the Foundation have a great opportunity: they can offer runners an guaranteed entry to the race as part of a team raising money to fight Cystic Fibrosis. Here’s an email they sent out to their network of supporters:
Part of what makes this email so effective is its timing–the Boomer Esiason Foundation sent this information out right after the lottery entry results were announced last week. Even though race day isn’t until November, they know that runners who missed out on the lottery are anxiously looking for another way to enter the race. And making it simple to sign up for the team means that their team members can start raising money online right away.
So, to recap: Lots of races have limited field entries. Make it easy for people who missed the deadline or didn’t get a lottery number to join your team and run for a reason.
Happy fundraising!

This is a great idea! Because the disappointment of not being chosen in the lottery is such a big one for most, this timing is perfect in meeting the needs of runners who really have the desire to run. One of the best part of running a marathon is not just for yourself but for others. Every runner should at least one time in their life try to fundraise for a charity and train. It is really rewarding and brings running the race to a whole new level.

Be part of something special have the TOTAL experience of the marathon. Run for one of my charity programs and find out what it means to be part of a team. Team is Everything!
